How To Effectively Clean Your Gums

Posted on 3/20/2023 by Evan
How To Effectively Clean Your GumsMore than half of all adults suffer from gum disease. The older you are, the more likely you are to have gum disease.

In fact, more than 70% of all adults over 65 have gum disease. While this number sounds scary, you can greatly reduce your chances of getting gum disease by effectively cleaning your teeth and gums. If you are concerned you don't know how to clean your gums, here is some additional information about gum cleaning.

How Can I Clean My Gums Properly?

The first step you need to take towards cleaning your gums is to select a soft bristle toothbrush. You want soft bristles so that you don't damage your gums while you are brushing.

Next, brush your teeth and gums. You need to brush your gums as well as your teeth to get rid of bacteria that can cause plaque and tartar.

You can brush your teeth and gums either by making small circles with the toothbrush, or you can brush with short back-and-forth strokes. You don't have to brush your entire gum, but just the area where the teeth and gums meet.

Next, you'll want to floss. You may not think about flossing every time you brush. However, flossing helps to dislodge bits of food from between your teeth. The food can become trapped there and can cause bacteria to grow.

To floss, you can use dental floss strings or a flosser. Be sure that you move the floss up and down between each of your teeth. You also want to make sure that your tongue is clean as well. You can either use a tongue scraper, or you can brush your tongue.

By brushing, flossing, and cleaning your tongue, you are helping to make sure your mouth is as clean as possible. With a clean mouth, you are less likely to get gum disease. If you're concerned about your gums, let us help.
