The Use of Probiotics in Periodontal Disease Management

The advantages of probiotics for digestive health may be well known. However, probiotics could also assist oral health. They are live bacteria analogous to the beneficial organisms inherent in the mouth. Common strains stem from two varieties of microbes: lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. In the interim, probiotic foods like yogurt offer some profit. A nutritious, vegetable-rich diet may also nurture good mouth bacteria. Diligent oral hygiene and dental examinations continue to be critical for gum disease prevention and management.

Probiotics are an exciting new area of research for oral health. More studies may soon prove that probiotics can improve gum disease treatment. For now, be sure to brush and floss daily and see your dentist to catch any problems early.
