Dental Implant FAQ
El Paso, TX

Dental implants are a great restorative procedure that can provide you with a whole new smile. They offer many benefits. Dental implants look and function like natural teeth. They also last for a long time and can provide you with years of a picture-perfect smile.

If you are ready for your new smile, our team at Bruce Gopin, DDS, MS offers many great restorative procedures including dental implants. During a consultation appointment, one of our professionals will review the process with you and help you determine if implants are right for you.

How Are Dental Implants Installed?

Dental implants are installed in several stages. During the initial procedure, our team will install titanium posts directly into your jawbone. These posts are threaded and will eventually act as receivers for the false teeth. You will be provided a temporary set of teeth during the healing process.

Once your mouth heals from the installation of the posts, our team will schedule your next visit. During this visit, the final set of false teeth will be placed on the titanium posts. They will ensure that the teeth fit properly on the posts and are adjusted for maximum comfort and appearance.

Why Would I Need a Bone Graft?

If your jawbone is healthy and strong enough to receive dental implants, then the first procedure will involve the installation of the titanium posts. However, if it is determined that your jawbone is not strong enough to support the implants, a graft will be needed. To check the density of your jawbone, our team will capture digital images of your jaw.

A bone graft is completed by grafting bone fragments to your jawbone. Once this procedure is completed, our team will allow several months for your jaw to heal and the fragments to fuse with the existing bone. After the bone is fused, your jaw will be able to support the implants.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

The titanium posts installed for your dental implants will last for the rest of your life. Titanium is an extremely durable and strong material that does not rust. The false teeth that are installed onto the posts will last approximately ten to twenty years, according to WebMD.

The lifespan of your implants will be depending upon several factors. As with your natural teeth, good oral hygiene practices are vital to getting the most out of your implants. Regular dental exams are also necessary so that our team can professionally clean and inspect your implants.

How Long Is the Recovery?

The recovery process will vary slightly from person to person. There will be a separate recovery time for each stage of the dental implant procedure. If you are in need of a bone graft, the recovery time will range from a few months to one year. You will also need several months to recover after the installation of the posts before your permanent teeth can be installed.
